Tuolumne County residents will have an opportunity to weigh in on naming the county’s newest road.
The county Board of Supervisors on Tuesday put off a decision to name the access road to the future site of the Law and Justice Center and requested county staff seek suggestions. The staff recommendation for the name of the road, located where Old Wards Ferry Road meets Highway 108, was Justice Center Drive.

Wright locks district
The final tallying of absentee ballots in Calaveras County on Tuesday put the closest supervisorial race to bed while leaving a Vallecito Union School District race with a bit of intrigue.
Rail Road Flat nonprofit director Chris Wright is assured of succeeding retiring District 2 Supervisor Steve Wilensky, whose policies he has openly admired and whose endorsement he gained in the campaign, by virtue of a 122-vote margin against West Point store owner Bryce Randall. The remaining provisional ballots cast in the district total just 90, and Wright’s lead is more than 3 percentage points.

Supervisors OK $300K agreement
Three outgoing supervisors split their votes Tuesday on a narrowly approved $299,960 contract intended to complete the update to Calaveras County’s General Plan land use document, with cross words defining their debate.
Retiring Supervisor Steve Wilensky sided with supervisors Darren Spellman and Merita Callaway, who were not up for re-election last week, in favor of an agreement for consultant services of Raney Planning and Management of Sacramento. Supervisors Gary Tofanelli and Tom Tryon, both ousted by challengers at the ballot box, preferred to have the trio of newcomers decide after they are seated in January.
